TRW Leads Restoration Efforts at Historic Log Cabin in Manchester, CT

TRW was hired by the Town of Manchester in Connecticut to perform a historic preservation and conservation

study of The Case Mountain Log Cabin on the Upper Case Pond. Located just off the Case Mountain trailhead in the woods, the structure has suffered disrepair due to elemental damage and vandalism. This study will oversee the preservation of this unique structure built out of American Chestnut logs prior to the chestnut blight that wiped out populations across the country in the 20th century.

Built in 1917 by the Case Dennison Family, owners of the Spring Street Paper Mill, the Lodge was constructed to serve as a summer retreat. In 2009 the cabin was a contributing factor in the addition of the property on the National Register of Historic Places as the Case Brothers Historic District. The property was purchased by the Town of Manchester in 2009, and in 2022 a grassroots effort formed to begin seeing to the Town’s restoration and maintenance of the cabin for future generations to appreciate as a historic piece of the Case Mountain Recreation Area.
